The first exercise session, named “Methods for knowing”, was the occasion for us all to meet, discover the project and start sharing ideas.
So, the goal of the project is to create the concept of a tool or service targeted for a subgroup of Stockholm tourists. To do that, our first step is to identify that subgroup and get to know them, so that our product can be focused on what they would need and/or want.
The first subgroup we considered was young short term tourists: groups of friends, exchange students (at the beginning of their stay). We were interested by this one because it would have been easy to find tourists from that group, and we also felt closer to it. But being able to identify ourselves with out study target might not be very wise, as we can tend to be biaised and not have an objective look at the data throughout the project.
We settled on backpackers, which we identified as travelers going from place to place, not staying for a long time, having big but easily carriable luggage. We didn’t really know much about their interests , but that was an easily to spot group, different from us and that sounds interesing to study.
Our next task will be preparing the interviews and going on the field!
