Lots of tools and services are available for backpackers to find information about their travels. Most of them are available online. Even though they are more exhaustive and have more feature, they come with a big requirement when being on the road: an internet connection and some battery for the device. These things are not always available while backpacking. This is where the offline supports come in handy: A guide (a live person, a brochure or a self made list) to find the places, and a map to find how to get there. What we have found is that all crucial information, and most other as well, is available in more than one way. It might not be as easily accessible as it is from home (e.g. getting your exact location on Google maps without wifi), but there will always be a way to find out what you need.
So, backpackers have to juggle between all these tools, online vs offline depending on where they are and where they go, and filter what is relevant for them in all that data.
